Heide two MKII shells for us please as discussed at Glocke.

I'll ask Pete59 to pick them up for us at Saint Lo.

We now have two of Sgt Heide's para helmet shells, plus two of Warren's chin straps, all we need is to bolt them on.

Can someone please post a picture or diagram showing where the leather chinstrap connection points go around the rim?

Also, what's the approximate size of the bolts and are they brass like the top of the MKII?

Heide, how much is your estimate for shipping to the US. Once I get settled there, I may end up taking one of these off your hands  :good:

I think the cost of the post would be twice the cost of the helmet at least.

There's a fair few people had airborne helmets off us now(my Bro & I make them together), has anyone put one together yet? I'd like to see one painted and with a chinstrap and net on it.

We plan on making a few more for "stock" if anyone else is after one. Also, we're now making Tommy helmet shells as well, same price, £10. B&A have their names on the first ones.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Speaking of which, has anyone got a decent link to MkII helmet liners? lift the dot ones would do at a push, as i need about 4 liners now, and i'm not prepared to pay £20 a pop from SOF, when i can get a complete MkII lid for that!

Well, it doesn't help you much, but Pegasus make better tommy helmet liners that SoF for about £25, inc chin strap.

I don't know of a source of decent original liners. The ones I have had have all been too small for me and all came with original helmets. I don't think I've ever seen an original liner sold on its own.

Yeah, i've been looking all over the place, all the original liner's i've got are small, unpleasant and manky, other than one, which just about fits.

I may end up buying one decent one and swapping it about depending on the game, it just means i don't have any spares in case anyone wants to borrow one, and my helmet display looks wrong.

7 3/4 for my head Webby... biggest they have basically.

Evo, I do the same, I actually have 3 helmets and 2 liners for them. One of the liners is a Pegasus which I bought. The other is an SoF which came with the helmet it's in.

I should be getting a really nice brodie helmet liner this week... :D

WPG are now doing their own repro Para helmet. It's the one without the rubber rim but with leather straps.

Pete I'm working on getting a helmet finished with strap and foam stuck inside in lieu of a liner.

Will get some pictures up by the weekend.

Unfortunately the WPG is considerably more expensive for us people in the UK than the military history workshop one I started the thread with.

Here is Sgt Heide's fibre-glass helmet shell fashionably accessorised, apologies for the gurning model, and re-enactors might like to look away now.

-- attachment is not available --

Shell = £ 10.00
Shell was spray painted with Vauxhall Leaf Green = £ 7.00 (cue discussion on correct shade of green)
3 No. M6 nuts and bolts plus washers = £ 1.00 (need to paint these brass and cut them to length)
Chin strap from Shoot n Scoot = £ 20.00
Sponge from B & Q for "liner" = £ 1.50
A couple of bits of leather stuck on to the sponge as a sweat band = £ 0.00 (we always have some leather lying around)
TOTAL about £ 40.00 not including the net which we swapped from our MKII anyway.

I think it looks perfectly reasonable, and is actually more comfy than our others which have modified SoF MKII liners. Ok so the liner is all wrong but if you're close enough to me to see up underneath the rim then I think it's safe to say we both have a much bigger problem than my farby helmet liner....

Nice work Barrie. Who cares what a reenactor thinks? We didn't make them for reenacting (although, unless someone knew it was fibreglass, they couldn't tell anyway). It looks great and more than adequate for airsoft.

Actually, joking aside, the only thing giving it away is the liner and the bolts. Otherwise if you ask me it IS good enough for reenacting.

To be honest, if you hadn't have said Barry, I would have been convinced that it was a repro helmet, looks the biz with all the stuff on it, and I would imagine a lot more comfy! Plus if I did something similar I might be able to fit my massive head inside it!

Heide have you got any shells knocking about?! :)
